Robotic process automation to increase efficiency in higher education

The conference contribution to the 2nd Asia Pacific Conference on Educational Research, Social Science and Humanities (APCERSSH 2023) summarizes our research on whether and how Robotic Process Automation (RPA) can be integrated into teaching to support teaching formats in order to specifically and individually support students in learning software applications through automation. So-called self-learning “knowledge nuggets” were developed for this purpose. RPA makes it possible to carry out work processes using computers, a technology that is becoming increasingly popular to simplify recurring work processes. By slowing down this automation process, the user can study and imitate necessary steps. In our case study, we find that this training method achieves better learning outcomes. The learning speed is increasing, while at the same time the teaching effort is reduced. Automation technology can free teaching from method learning in order to use valuable lesson time for higher learning goals.
