A BIM manager plays a central role in project management, especially in data and information management on behalf of the client. This position can be filled internally or externally. The BIM manager records the client's requirements (AIA) and defines the BIM goals and applications in the project.
Main tasks include the formulation of the AIA and the BIM objectives and applications. The BIM Manager is responsible for the organization, including definition, implementation, compliance and documentation of BIM processes throughout the entire lifecycle. He monitors the project platform or Common Data Environment (CDE), sets it up and ensures its smooth operation.
The BIM Manager is the client's contact person for digital matters and specializes in project-specific BIM topics. He also creates, reviews and approves BIM execution plans (BAP). He also plays an important role in approving the contractor's deliverables to ensure compliance with AIA and BAP. In addition to defining CDE requirements, he is responsible for their provision and management.
To ensure data integrity, the BIM manager specifies exchange formats for the software, unless they are already described in the AIA. In addition, he specifies requirements regarding data security, data consistency and data distribution. It is important to emphasize that the BIM manager is not responsible for the technical correctness of the contractor's plans, for example in structural design.
