On 31.05.2023, the “Digital Construction” state championship in Lower Saxony was held on the Jade University campus. The competition serves as a qualification for the German championship, which will take place at Digital Bau in Cologne in February 2024. The winners of this national championship will then be represented in Team Germany at the 2025 World Championships in Lyon, France.
Melina Hofmann, student in the master's program in architecture, was able to prevail in the competition with a total of 15 participants. She impressed the jury with her almost flawless development of the digital model and put Sören Borchers and Maria Sprömmer in their seats. This placement gives all three the opportunity to take part in the national championship in Cologne 2024. Leon Böhne and Vinita Odekoma each received a certificate of participation for their achievements. The awards were presented by Prof. Dr. Manfred Weisensee, President of Jade University.
The state championships were held by WorldSkills Germany e.V., represented by national trainer for digital construction Dill M. Khan, at the invitation of Professor Dr. Gregor Grunwald from the Department of Architecture and Prof. Dr. Sebastian Hollermann from the Department of Civil Engineering. They were supported locally by the BIM Baumeister Academy. “This event shows the potential of learning through play, similar to our BIM game learning formats at Jade University,” summarizes Grunwald and explains that the experience of this event will be incorporated into the design of the Erasmus+ project “digital DECATHLON”, in which five European universities will carry out digital planning in an international and competitive environment in the coming winter semester.
