ArchiCAD - Advanced

This comprehensive ArchiCAD nugget covers advanced aspects of ArchiCAD CAD software. It is an ideal resource for users who already have basic knowledge of ArchiCAD and want to take their skills to a higher level. The series starts with basic ArchiCAD tutorials for beginners and then leads to more specific topics, such as stairs, multi-layered components, the Solid Element command, element attributes, documents, presentation, sun studies and shadows, graphical override, layout, and export functions. This resource provides a structured approach to making full use of ArchiCAD and enables users to deepen their skills in modeling and planning buildings.

ArchiCAD 01 - Advanced - Roof 1/2

TASK 1:

Roof 1

  1. Draw a classic gable roof on a rectangular wall structure. The ridge should be oriented north-west.
  2. Set the roof to have a slope of “25°” and a roof overhang of “200". Change the shape of the roof end from an orthogonal to a beveled one.
  3. Insert a rectangular skylight.
  4. Change the surface materials of the roof and finally intersect the walls with the roof.
ArchiCAD 02 - Advanced - Roof 2/2

TASK 2:

Roof 2

1. Draw a classic flat roof with a slope of 1° on a rectangular wall structure.

2. Change the wall structure to “Basement Wall.”

3. Create an attic with a height of 80cm.

ArchiCAD 03 - Advanced - Shell Tool

TASK 3:

Shell tool

1. Draw a multi-layered wavy roof on the short side of a rectangular wall structure measuring 15x17m.

2. In the floor plan work area, draw an ellipse on the entire roof and then intersect the roof with the ellipse. Remove the wall structure.

3. Create a wall that supports the roof and fills the ellipse. Trim the roof with the wall.

4. Change the top material of the roof and wall to “Stonework 12.”

ArchiCAD 04 - Advanced - Columns and Beams

TASK 4:

Columns and Beams

1. Place a 7m-long rack on the ground floor and divide it into five segments. The third segment should be the longest. The cross section should measure 1×1 m.

2. Modify the second and fourth segments so that they are narrower by half vertically towards the midpoint.

3. The height of the middle segment should be reduced by half.

4. The material should be changed to “Concrete Block Filler” (External Filler).

ArchiCAD 05 - Advanced - Stairs and Railings

TASK 5:

Stairs and railings

1. Draw a two-course staircase that has steps of the same course (“Winder with Equal Goings”) at the junction instead of a podium.

2. Create a frameless glass railing on the outside of the stairs

3. Change the height of the bottom rail to “200". Delete the second handrail.

4. Change the shape of the stair runs in “Edit” mode.

ArchiCAD 06 - Advanced - Multi-layered components

TASK 6:

Multi-layered components

1. Create a wall structure measuring 7x7 meters on the ground floor and on the first floor. Use the multi-layered “Basement Wall” structure.

2. Draw a foundation, a false ceiling with parquet and a flat roof.

3. Change the reference planes of the ceilings so that they structurally match the walls.

ArchiCAD 07 - Advanced - Solid Element Command

TASK 7:

solid element commands

1. Create a wall structure measuring 8x8 meters. The height should extend over two floors.

2. Add a gable roof to the 2nd floor with an inclination of 25° so that the ridge line touches the top of the wall.

3. Use the solid element command “Subtraction with upward extrusion” and intersect the roof with the walls.

ArchiCAD 08 - Advanced - Element Attributes 1/3

TASK 8:

Element attributes 1

1. Create a new line under “Element Attributes” under “Lines.” Use the “Dashed” option.

2. The line should have four different sections, each of which will be extended by twice under “Dash” and shortened under “Gap”.

3. Draw the previously created line with the number 70 from the standard palette.

4. Change the greenish tint to a bluish tone and change the pencil thickness so that the line is significantly stronger.

ArchiCAD 09 - Advanced - Element Attributes 2/3

TASK 9:

Element attributes 2

1. Create a blanket Add a new surface material to the ceiling under “Surfaces” to make the ceiling look like frozen water. Use the “New from Catalog” option when creating.

2. Create a rectangular wall structure. Also add a new finishing material to the walls. When creating, use the “New from Catalog” option and choose a concrete surface.

3. Create a new stamp for the room called “Gallery” and change the stamp shape to “Basic Zone Stamp.”

4. Place the created stamp in the room.

ArchiCAD 10 - Advanced - Element Attributes 3/3

TASK 10:

Element attributes 3

1. Create a new “Operation Profile.” Adapt the schedule and daily routine to a museum that is open Monday through Friday.

2. Enter “50” per capita for the human heat gain, “20” for the consumer water load and “5” for the humidity per day.

3. The internal temperature should always be 21.5°.

ArchiCAD 11 - Advanced - Documents

TASK 11:

3D documents

1. Draw a small building.

2. Perform a 3D vertical cut.

3. Create a new 3D document in which the building is shown in a sectional view.

4. Copy the 3D document to an independent worksheet and color all lines gray.

ArchiCAD 12 - Advanced - Presentation

TASK 12:

Photorealistic presentation

1. Create an interior rendering

2. Use a physical sky. The time of day should be advanced in the rendering.

3. The interior lighting should be visible.

ArchiCAD 13 - Advanced - Sun Study and Shadows

TASK 13:

Sun study and shade

1. Create a solar study from the interior of a model.

2. The time of day should be advanced.

3. Create the shadow and color it gray

ArchiCAD 14 - Advanced - Graphical Override

TASK 14:

Graphical override

1. Create a new graphical override.

2. Interior walls should be blue and outer walls should be red.

3. Post and frame facades should be black.

ArchiCAD 15 - Advanced - Layout

TASK 15:

layout

1. Create a new master layout in A1 landscape mode.
2. Insert your own planhead This should contain at least the project name and project description. A self
Self-created logo should also be included.
3. A self-created logo should be inserted into the planhead.
4. The project name should also be visible at the top left.

ArchiCAD 16 - Advanced - Export

TASK 16:

Exporting 1

1. Create a new publisher set.

2. For now, use the “Create Single File” settings and “PDF” as the format.

3. Place the ground floor and another drawing here.

4. Change the settings so that the layouts can be saved as “PNG.”

ArchiCAD 17 - Advanced - Export IFC

TASK 17:

Exporting IFC

1. Create a 3D model

2. Open IFC Translator
